Settings

Every setting in the app - this case's folder and agent access, appearance, disk encryption, reading models, the command-line tool, the activity log, the system check and starting over.

#One Settings screen

Open Settings in the left column. It covers the case you have open (For Harrowfield and this computer.) and the app as a whole. With no case open, only the app and computer parts show.

#This case

#Case folder

Shows where the case reads its files from. Change folder… points the case at a new location, for example after you moved or renamed the folder. The app checks how many of the case's files it finds there and tells you; your work in the case is kept. See All cases.

#Let AI agents use this case

When on, an AI agent on this computer can search and read this case through the discovery command, with real names and file names. Turning it off blocks every agent call on this case at once.

Turning it on asks you to confirm (Let agents use this case), because whatever the agent reads may be sent to the agent's own AI provider.

#AI agent

A note that the app's own AI is off in this version: your AI agent does the AI work through the command-line tool. There's nothing to configure here: no API keys, no provider, no spending cap.

#This computer

#Disk encryption

Whether FileVault (Mac) or BitLocker / Device encryption (Windows) is protecting the disk, with what to do if it isn't. For example: FileVault is off. Turn it on in System Settings, Privacy & Security, FileVault.

#Reading models

The same list as in setup: Speech recognition, Speech detection, Name detection, the search model, and the optional Speech recognition, other languages. Each shows Ready, Not downloaded, a percentage while downloading, or Failed with Try again. Download what is needed fetches any that are missing.

#Command-line tool

Install command-line tool (or Install again) puts the discovery command on this computer, the same as on Start Up. On a Mac, Add to PATH lets new Terminal windows find it by name. Afterwards the screen tells you to open a new terminal window and type discovery version to check.

#Activity log

How much the app writes to its activity log, a file for diagnosing slow or stuck reading:

LevelWhat's noted
OffNothing.
Normal (the default)A heartbeat every minute while files are read, with each file being read and for how long, and every failure.
DetailedAlso every file, and every page read with OCR.

The log's location is shown, with Show in Finder / Show in Explorer. Your agent can read it with discovery log show.

#System check

Click Run check (then Check again) for the app's own health report, the same one discovery doctor prints. Each check has a green or red dot and, when it fails, what to do. See Troubleshooting.

#Start over

Delete every case… is for starting from a clean slate. It deletes, from this computer, every case's database, highlights, agent log and cached pages. It can't be undone.

  • The case folders and their files are never touched; they can be read again as new cases.
  • The reading models and these settings stay.
  • The box Also forget this computer's reading times and speed score is ticked by default; untick it to keep them for future time estimates.
  • Type DELETE to confirm, then click Delete every case.
